Explore the majestic Akagera National Park, home to a variety of savannah animals & wildlife.

Akagera National Park has a diversity of wildlife including buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, zebras, impalas and many others. After a long time being extinct in Akagera National Park, the black rhinos and lions have recently been restocked. Their sighting is always not guaranteed due to their small number and the hiding character of the black rhino. Enjoy the game drive viewing the natural habitat of different animals, birds and enjoying the view of different lakes and landscape.

Overview

​

Depart from Kigali as early as 04h45 and drive for an estimated three hours and reach Akagera National Park by 08h00 and then spend the entire day through the park to depart to Kigali late afternoon or in the evening.

 

Indicative itinerary

​

04h45: Pick-up, leave Kigali with a Countryside Tours-Rwanda driver-guide to drive 3.5 hours approx.


Mid-way: Stop-over by Imigongo Art Center for leg stretching and exploring the different art objects in their exhibition hall, proceed and pick picnic lunch from Akagera Transit Lodge.


Towards 08h00: Akagera National Park reception, buy permits, register.

 
Spend the day, starting with Ihema lake boat ride, 09h00 then game-driving in Akagera National Park.


Arrive back in Kigali in the evening, approx. between 18h30 and 20h00.

IMPORTANT

Some areas of Akagera have tsetse flies and they do bite while traveling.
Recommended equipment: In addition to insect repellent, it is recommended to wear medium weight fabric shirts and pants in neutral colors that blend into the background environment (khaki savannah or similar). Colors identical to the surroundings make you less visible to flies.

 

Covid-19 test: A Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours from a clinic in Rwanda is required. Rapid is accepted, mobile accepted.
